Impressive loading of Coal by Indian Railways caused stock in power houses in India to reach 57 MT, which is all time of highest.
Transportation of bulk products, vital for industry and energy depends much on Indian Railways: coal for power plants, iron ore, coking coal and limestone for steel industries, finished steel for manufacturing and construction, cement, food grains for national distribution, fertilisers for agriculture, and petroleum products.
Rail travel has been more inexpensive than automobile transport for large items and lengthy distances. This lowers total logistical costs for companies, so enabling Indian products to be more competitive both at home and abroad.
Furthermore, Railways connects the mines, factories, agricultural areas, and ports with markets all around the nation, hence facilitating smooth supply chains across its large nationwide network.
