NTPC North Karanpura achieves Milestone with Successful Synchronization of Unit 3

Chatra, Jharkhand, March 19, 2025 – NTPC North Karanpura successfully synchronized Unit #3 at 02:43 hours on March 19, 2025, marking a significant step toward the full operationalization of the plant. This success emphasises NTPC's dedication to guarantee energy security for the country and helps to increase the capacity of power generating in the area.
The NTPC North Karanpura Super Thermal Power Project (NKSTPP) has a total planned capacity of 1,980 MW, comprising three units of 660 MW each. With two units already operational, the synchronization of Unit #3 brings NTPC closer to achieving its full generation potential.

It is strategically positioned in the Chatra area of Jharkhand and the project is poised to be very important in providing power to Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal, and Sikkim, therefore guaranteeing 24×7 availability of dependable and reasonably priced electricity for the eastern part of India.
Strategically located in Chatra district of Jharkhand, this pit-head project is poised to play a crucial role in supplying power to Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal, and Sikkim, ensuring 24x7 availability of reliable and affordable electricity for the eastern region of India. Notably, NTPC North Karanpura is India’s first Supercritical Thermal Power Project to incorporate an Air-Cooled Condenser (ACC) of such scale, reducing water consumption to just one-third compared to traditional water-cooled condensers. This technological innovation highlights NTPC’s dedication to sustainable and efficient power generation.
