State-run NHPC Ltd shares an update on the proposed investment of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with Gujarat Power Corporation Limited (GPCL), Government of Gujarat.
According to the filing made, it is to inform that the survey and investigation works of the Kuppa Pumped Storage Project (750 MW), Chhota Udaipur, Gujarat, were halted due to circumstances beyond the control of the Company and is expected to resume at the earliest.
Accordingly, it is envisaged that the year of commencement of investment in the aforesaid project would be FY 2025-26 instead of FY 2024-25, it added.

On 4th January, 2024, NHPC signed an MoU with Gujarat Power Corporation Limited and the government of Gujarat for investment in the proposed 750 MW Kuppa Pumped Hydro Storage Project. As per the MoU, NHPC will invest an estimated Rs. 4000 crores in the proposed project, situated at Chhota Udaipur, Gujarat.
The hydropower giant and the Government of Gujarat plan to develop and utilize pumped hydro storage projects as an effective solution for energy storage. The project is expected to create significant employment opportunities and boost the local economy.
