NHPC Ltd awards LoA to Jindal India Renewable Energy for 300 MW solar project

State-owned NHPC has given a Letter of Acceptance to Jindal India Renewable Energy for a 300 MW solar plus storage project. According to the firm, the project is to be carried out on a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) basis within 24 months from the signing of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

With 600 MW/1200 MW energy storage systems, the project is part of NHPC's 1200 MW inter-state transmission system-connected solar power projects tender.

A 600 MW/1200 MW Energy Storage System (ESS) produces a total output of 1200 MW by allowing 600 MW of battery energy to offer power backup for two hours.

At a rate of Rs 3.09/kWh (kilowatt hour), Jindal India Renewable Energy (JIRE) has secured the 300 MW capacity. For 25 years, NHPC will sign a contract with JIRE. The Navratna firm would buy solar power from JIRE and distribute it to public utilities and others.

As a part of BC Jindal Group, Jindal India Renewable Energy has grown over from a steel pipe manufacturer to a leading conglomerate in the power sector.
