NHPC Commences Wet Commissioning of 250 MW Unit-3 at Subansiri Lower Project
New Delhi: In a major boost to India’s renewable energy capacity, NHPC Limited has announced the commencement of wet commissioning for Unit–3 (250 MW) of the 2000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project on Saturday. The process began with the successful mechanical run of the machine on December 27, marking a significant milestone in the phased commissioning of the nation’s largest hydropower project.
Speaking on the occasion, NHPC’s Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), Shri Bhupender Gupta, expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Power, the state governments of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, and all project partners. He hailed the achievement as a testament to NHPC’s engineering excellence and a decisive step toward realizing India’s vision for a clean, green, and self-reliant energy future.
Shri Gupta also commended the Subansiri project team, led by Shri Rajendra Prasad, Executive Director & Head of Project, for their technical expertise and dedication. He urged the team to maintain the momentum for the timely completion of the remaining units.
With Unit–3 now entering the synchronization phase with the national grid, NHPC plans to proceed with the phased commissioning of the remaining five units, each with a capacity of 250 MW.
Upon its full completion, the Subansiri Lower HEP (8 × 250 MW) will hold the distinction of being India’s largest hydroelectric project. This project is expected to play a crucial role in providing grid stability and meeting the peaking power requirements of the country while contributing significantly to the reduction of carbon emissions.
