MCL makes new high in coal production & dispatch

Reaffirming its commitment to ensuring energy security, MCL also recorded its highest-ever coal despatch of 210.5 MT, reflecting a 6% growth over FY 2023-24.

Sambalpur, April 1, 2025: Scaling new heights, Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) produced a record 225.2 million tonnes of coal in Financial Year 2024-25 with an impressive growth of 9% over last fiscal.

Reaffirming its commitment to ensuring energy security, MCL also recorded its highest-ever coal despatch of 210.5 MT, reflecting a 6% growth over FY 2023-24. The coal dispatch to the power sector has also increased from 150 million tonne in FY 2024 to 158 million tonne in FY 2025, growing at a rate of 5 percent.

In a remarkable achievement, MCL also registered a growth of 22% compared to the previous fiscal in overburden removal at 338 MCuM (million cubic meters), which will help the company in increasing coal production during the current fiscal.

FY'25 overall remained the year of achievements for the company, as it has set new milestones in all three performance parameters vis-a-vis coal production, despatch and overburden removal (OBR).

Chairman-cum-Managing Director of the company, Shri Uday A. Kaole congratulated officers, staff, employees of contracted companies and other stakeholders for the achievement.

MCL enjoys being the largest CSR spender in Odisha spending around Rs 215 crore in FY'25 under various CSR initiatives for social and economic upliftment of society, particularly the remote and peripheral areas of the coalfields.

MCL is the largest coal producing company in the country, having its mining operations spread over Sundergarh, Jharsuguda and Angul districts of Odisha.
