HPCL subsidiary commissions LNG Regasification terminal in Gujarat
Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has successfully commissioned a liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification terminal with a capacity of 5 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) at Chhara, Gujarat. This terminal was established by HPCL's wholly owned subsidiary, HPCL LNG.
The company's announcement noted that the vessel Maran Gas Coronis, carrying an LNG cargo, arrived at the terminal on January 6, 2025. The discharge of the cargo into the onshore LNG storage tanks was completed by January 12, 2025.
The terminal, located at Chhara Port in the Gir-Somnath District of Gujarat, was developed with an investment of approximately Rs 4,750 crore. It is equipped with facilities for receiving LNG from ocean tankers, marine unloading, storage, loading LNG onto road tankers, regasification, and supplying regasified LNG to the gas grid.

HPCL LNG will operate the terminal under a tolling model, offering services to third-party users through long-term capacity booking contracts and/or master regasification agreements for spot cargoes.
The company has already brought in its first cargo, and the terminal is set to begin commercial operations soon.
The share price fell lower by 6.44% to Rs 363.40 on the BSE.
