DVC achieved second highest thermal power generation in its history

Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), a statutory body which operates in the Damodar River area of West Bengal and Jharkhand and a leading integrated power utility, celebrates and announces yet another year of remarkable and outstanding performance in FY 2024-25. DVC achieved cumulative generation of 43667 MU in FY 24-25 which includes thermal generation of 43370 MU, Hydel generation of 279.6 MU & Solar Generation of 16.8 MU. 

HIGHLIGHTS: 

  • DVC achieved second highest thermal power generation in its history with thermal generation being 43370 MU at a PLF of 75.7% in FY 2024-25. 

  • DVC achieved the highest solar power generation of 16.8 MU in FY 24-25.

  • DVC’s power stations featured multiple times amongst the Top 10 Central Sector thermal power stations in terms of monthly PLF in FY 24-25 with CTPS featuring 5 times.  

  • Biomass co-firing is being carried out in all units of DVC. 

  • 1st time gypsum lifting has started from thermal power stations of DVC at Bokaro, Durgapur Steel, Koderma and Raghunathpur. RCR mode has been started for conditioning of dry fly ash from its Koderma TPS. 

  • DVC achieved coal production of 4 MMT from its captive coal mine at Tubed, Latehar district Jharkhand. 

  • Total number of coal rakes received in FY 2024-25 is 7853 which is the highest ever surpassing the previous Nos. of rake received of 7613 in FY 23-24. Total quantity of coal received is 28.7 MMT. 

  • DVC has registered revenue collection of Rs. 25,320 Crores during FY 2024-25. Annual Collection efficiency has been 109%. 

  • DVC has shown an improvement of 5.95% in water sales revenue by registering revenue amounting to approx. Rs. 392 crores in FY 2024-25 . 

DVC has significantly strengthened its Transmission & Distribution system by commissioning :-

  • 220KV GIS Substations – 2 Nos. at RTPS, MTPS

  • 132KV GIS Substation – 1 No.at Massilung s/s, Jh

  • 220KV Transmission Line – 134 Ckm 

  • 132KV Transmission Line – 8 CKm (tapping from 132kV CTPS—Ramkanali line & 132kv Line from Barjora s/s) 

  • Transformer capacity addition – 160MVA  

  • In a significant stride towards attaining a sustainable energy mix in its portfolio, DVC has achieved 100 % RPO compliance. 

  • DVC successfully commissioned four state-of-the-art e-House 33/11kV substations with associated new bays at Dhanbad, Biada, Deoli and Giridih further reinforcing its power distribution network and commitment to excellence.The Giridih e-House substation was charged in record 24 days after placement on the pedestal, showcasing a commitment to speedy and efficient execution.

  • DVC has ambitious capacity augmentation plans which includes 2x800 MW at its Koderma TPS and 2x660 MW at its Raghunathpur TPS where work has already started. 

  • DVC registered consolidated procurement of Rs. 1467.36 Cr. through GeM portal in FY 2024-25 which is a 2.5% hike over that of the last fiscal. 

  • DVC has successfully generated revenue, amounting to Rs. 256.68 crores, by leveraging waste-to-wealth initiatives. These initiatives include the sale of scrap materials from various projects and headquarters, as well as the decommissioning of old power plants.

  • In the face of massive expansion plans, DVC undertook a year-long recruitment drive in FY 24-25, boosting its manpower significantly.  

  • The outstanding performance of DVC has been recognized through various awards and accolades conferred during FY 2024-25 as follows:

  • DSTPS has achieved CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) National award for excellence in Energy Management. 

  • DSTPS has achieved CEE (Council of Enviro Excellence) award for “Best National Ash Handling Plant” (2024) under the public sector category for exemplary ash management. 

  • KTPS has won “Best National Efficient Sewage Treatment Plant of the year” award at CEE 3rd National Power-Gen Water Awards 2025.

  • DVC has bagged the Champions’ Trophy at XLRI Jamshedpur in the category of “Celebrating Best Practices in CSR” at the ‘ HR for the Greater Good Conclave 2024: Celebrating the best HR Practices’ 

  • DVC was felicitated with award of excellence in the category of ‘ Best Communication Campaigns’ by PSUs at the 8th National Media Conclave 2024. 

  • A dedicated employee of DVC, Dr. Mehebub Alam. Manager (E ) has been conferred with the coveted ‘ Young Engineer Award’ by the Central Board of Irrigation & Power for his significant contributions to the power sector. He boasts of an impressive portfolio of over 10 journals, 10 book chapters and 25 conference based research papers on a plethora of topics involving the power sector. 

  • RTPS was conferred with prestigious “Best Thermal Power Performing Station” award by Central Board of Irrigation and Power at New Delhi .

  • MTPS received “Best Thermal Power Performing Station” award from CBIP at New Delhi . And the list continues…..
