Coal Ministry signs Coal Gasification Plant Development & Production Agreement with CGIL
Ministry of Coal and Coal Gas India Limited (CGIL) signed a Coal Gasification Plant Development & Production Agreement, marking a significant step towards cleaner energy and independence. Shri Debasish Nanda, Chairman, CGIL & Director (Business Development), Coal India Limited, received the agreement from Shri Vikram Dev Dutt, Secretary, Ministry of Coal.

New Delhi: On 11 April, 2025, in New Delhi, the Ministry of Coal and Coal Gas India Limited (CGIL) signed a Coal Gasification Plant Development & Production Agreement, marking a significant step towards cleaner energy and independence. Shri Debasish Nanda, Chairman, CGIL & Director (Business Development), Coal India Limited, received the agreement from Shri Vikram Dev Dutt, Secretary, Ministry of Coal.

This initiative reaffirms the Ministry’s commitment to diversifying coal usage, reducing import dependence, and advancing sustainable energy technologies.
CGIL, a joint venture of CIL & GAIL, is setting up a Coal Gasification Project in West Bengal to produce Synthetic Natural Gas (SNG). The Ministry is extending financial assistance of Rs 1,350 crore under Category I of the approved Incentive Scheme for Coal Gasification.
