Airports Authority of India (AAI) is delighted to announce the inauguration of the Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS) at Kolkata Airport on 12th February 2025.

This cutting-edge aviation meteorological system, installed and integrated by the Meteorological Watch Office (MWO), India Meteorological Department (IMD), Kolkata, will revolutionize weather monitoring for safer and more efficient flight operations.

The AWOS sensors, strategically placed across six Met parks along the runway, will continuously collect and process key meteorological parameters, including temperature, wind speed & shear, humidity, visibility range, and cloud height.

This real-time data will enhance situational awareness, aiding both air traffic management and airline operations.

The inauguration was led by AAI Regional Executive Director (East), Smt. Nivedita Dubey, and Kolkata Airport Director, Dr. Pravat Ranjan Beuria, in the esteemed presence of Dr. Somenath Dutta (Head, RMC Kolkata), Shri Gajendra Kumar (Head, CAMD New Delhi), Dr. Ganesh Kumar Das (Head, MWO Kolkata), along with senior officials of AAI Kolkata.
