Shri Ranjay Sharan

Before becoming Director (Projects) of NPCIL on 23.09.2022, he has held important positions of Chief Construction Engineer, Project Director, Officer-On-Special Duty & Executive Director in NPCIL and Vice-Chair & Chair of Management advisory Committee of ITER Council, France. He has acquired 34 years of work experience in Mega Nuclear Power Plant construction & commissioning combined with experience of handling global project management issues of the International Thermo-Nuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project of France.

Before taking over the position of Director (Projects) in NPCIL, hewasExecutive Director (Projects-PHWR) and was heading 6 Mega construction PHWR projects in India comprising of 16 Nuclear Reactors.

He has completed in his initial endeavor as Site Planning Engineer (SPE), a first of kind Mega Nuclear Power Project of 2X540 MWe capacity at Tarapur (TAPP-3&4) with a saving around 8% in Overall Project Cost (OPC) coupled with substantial saving of time in Overall Project Schedule (OPS) by completing the project in less than 5 years which was a world benchmark. Subsequently, he was involved for a shorter duration in construction of 2X1000 MWe VVER Mega Project which was implemented in India with Russian Co-operation.

He was Project Director of KAPP 3&4, a first of kind 2X700 MWe Mega Nuclear Power Plant construction at Kakrapar in India. This project was initially delayed due to post Fukushima design changes, contractual problems and delay in supply of equipment. He was posted at construction site in 2017 to revive the project, control the delays and finally complete the balance construction, testing & commissioning activities. He could complete these assignments successfully by motivating the construction & commissioning team, closely monitoring the procurement & construction schedule, timely & bold decision making on all technical and commercial issues.

Shri Sharan is a recipient of INS Medal award given by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India for his contribution in Project management at TAPP-3&4. He has been a faculty of Project management in HBNI since last many years.
