Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) team is now involved in the rescue operation of the coal mine accident that took place in the Assam-Meghalaya border area, 25 km from Umrangsu in the hilly district of Dima Hasao, Assam.

On 08.01.2025, a five-member team of Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) left from Nagpur for the incident site in a C-130 Hercules aircraft of the Indian Air Force. The team has left with a submersible pump, which can pump 500 gallons of water per minute from a height of 150 meters, a complex cable network, starter etc. The heavy duty submersible pump is intended to be installed at the incident site, where the miners are trapped. Water will be pumped out through this pump. This option is being seen as an important solution to save the workers.

Western Coalfields Limited, after preparing and arranging equipment in accordance with the emergency call for help, sent the team to Assam in just four hours.

According to the information received from the spot, the team of Western Coalfields Limited has started its work as soon as it reached, actively participating in the rescue operations.

The team is led by Manager (E&M) Mr. Suresh Singh Gaur. Along with him, Foreman Mr. Dilip Kinekar, Fitters Mr. Dilip Nagaral, Gurjeet and Ajay Bonde are included in the team. The rescue team of Western Coalfields Limited is considered to be the best among all the subsidiary companies of Coal India Limited. Earlier, the team of Western Coalfields Limited had also played an important role in rescuing people trapped in a tunnel in Uttarakhand.
