NLC India Limited joined the Nation in celebrating the 76th Republic Day today, 26th January, 2025. Grand festive arrangements were made at the NLCIL’s Bharathi Stadium.

New Delhi: Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD, NLCIL, unfurled the National flag and took the salute in the presence of NLCIL’s Functional Directors, CVO, DIG/CISF, Senior officials and employees. The function was attended by representatives of recognized Trade Unions, Associations representing Engineers, Officers & Supervisors, SC/ST, ST, OBC welfare associations, Heads of Schools and College, teachers, students and women employees. After unfurling the National Fag, CMD, NLCIL accepted the salute of the platoons of CISF, NLCIL Security, Home Guards, NCC & NSS and Students of Neyveli schools and college. Earlier, CMD, NLCIL garlanded the Statue of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi in the premises of Township Administration. Shri. Samir Swarup Director, Human resource welcomed the gathering.

In his Republic Day address, CMD, NLCIL, stated that the Republic Day was not only a commemoration of our past; it is a celebration of our present and a commitment to our future. It is also a day when we reaffirm our faith in the core values of Justice, Liberty, Equality and Fraternity contained in the preamble of our constitution. He paid rich tributes to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution and other National leaders for their vision and values that they strived to instill in the people.

 

Detailing the role of NLCIL in the growth trajectory of the Nation’s energy sector, he traced the evolution of the company from early lignite mining to coal mining and generation of power from lignite to coal & renewable energy sources spreading wings all over the country. The present total installed capacity of power generation through Lignite, Coal and Renewable Energy projects which is at 6,731 MW is poised to expand to more than 20,000 MW by 2030, he declared.  

Shri Prasanna Kumar outlined the long term plans of NLCIL which include commencing of commercial operations of NUPPL Unit, Coal Mining from Machhakata Coal Block with a capacity of 30 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) in Odisha, which is one among the top five biggest Mines in the country with reserves of 1.4 Billion Tonnes of coal,  the new Patrapara (South) coal mine block with a capacity of 12 MTPA, developing 2000 MW of renewable power projects in Rajasthan and development of a 1000 MW renewable power project in Assam. He also mentioned that in line with the objectives of the Government of India, NLCIL was looking into new ventures like generation of power through green hydrogen, pumped storage systems and reservoirs showcasing its commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions.

CMD lauded the entire NLCIL family for achieving the all-time highest ever coal production of 115.16 LT with a growth of 40.11%, the highest ever coal despatch of 117.44 LT with 41.68% growth in the Financial Year 2024-25 and a Capex of more than Rs.5200 Crores towards projects which is more than double of the annual target set by the Government of India.

CMD, NLCIL, listed the key CSR initiatives undertaken during the year 2024-25 like the MoU entered between NLCIL and M/s. ALIMCO for distribution of Aid and Assistive devices to Divyangs in Cuddalore District at a project cost of Rs.100 Lakhs, construction of Over Head Tanks and drinking water borewells at a cost of Rs.356.20 Lakhs in Cuddalore District, Construction of Check dam across Periya Odai near Sirumulai village in Tittakudi Taluq of Cuddalore District, construction of R.O Water plants for 25 villages at a cost of Rs.200 lakhs and financial support to Annamalai University for students of Diploma in Mining and the National Power Training Institute (NPTI) towards conducting job-oriented courses for dependents of Land Acquisition beneficiaries of Rs. 53.50 Lakh and Rs. 76.91 Lakhs respectively. He also recounted the contribution of Rs. 1 Crore to the Kerala Government for the Wayanad Disaster Management relief efforts.

CMD, NLCIL also recalled NLCIL’s support to the State / District Administration in the aftermath of the Cyclone Fengal by deploying necessary equipment to dewater affected areas in KN Pettai and other areas in Cuddalore District and introduction of free dedicated transport facility to intellectually challenged students of Sneha Opportunity Services in Neyveli.  

Shri Prasanna Kumar proudly listed out various awards won by the company in recognition of its committed performance like the Mining Innovation Award, the best performer award under Special Campaign 4.0 in the New Initiative/Best practice category and four Five Star Rating awards for Mines besides awards for excellence in HR and CSR practices. He also congratulated all the students who had won various laurels in sports events.

He expressed his thanks and gratitude to Hon’ble Minister of Coal & Mines, Shri. G. Kishan Reddy, Hon’ble Minister of State for Coal & Mines, Shri. Satish Chandra Dubey, Shri. Vikram Dev Dutt, Secretary (Coal), Senior Officials of Ministry of Coal, the Central & State Governments for their continues help and support to NLCIL.

He exhorted Team NLCIL to rise to the occasion, harness the potential and work towards a prosperous and sustainable future that integrates with the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli then proceeded to make a pleasant announcement that the scholarship amount being given to SC/ST/OBC students in NLC schools would be revised very soon. It may be recalled that, CMD, during the last Republic Day, had made an announcement that free bus services for children of NLC schools would be introduced which had been implemented. Similarly, during this Republic Day, a free dedicated bus service for special children of Sneha Opportunity Services has been introduced.

As part of the function, the senior most worker of NLCIL, Shri D. Rajeswaran, along with his spouse Smt. R. Parvathi were honoured. Tricycles were also presented to differently-abled persons.

CMD, Functional Directors and CVO presented long service awards, loyal service awards and special awards to the employees and students. This year 5 employees selected for presenting the best New Year Resolutions and 4 employees selected for the best Ideas were also honoured. A Colourful, cultural programme was presented by Neyveli school children and appreciated by one and all.

Director (HR) Shri Samir Swarup made an announcement that CMD, NLCIL, in a thoughtful and encouraging gesture of appreciation, had declared a total cash prize of Rs. 22,46,400.00 for the 3744 school students who participated in the cultural programmes, which works out to a gift amount of Rs.600 for each student.

To mark the occasion, the members of the Neyveli Ladies Club distributed fruits to the in-patients of the NLCIL General Hospital and wished them a speedy recovery.
