Tata Steel Jamshedpur Plant gets India's first BIS license
Tata Steel Jamshedpur Plant has been granted India's first BIS license for the manufacture of Structural Weather Resistant Steel.
Weathering steel, or Corten steel is used in the manufacturing of shipping containers and other heavy-duty weather-proof applications and was specially created to avoid the need for painting and to take on a stable rust-like look after several years of exposure to the elements.
Tata Steel Jamshedpur Plant is ecstatic to be the first all-India license holders for this new grade of steel as this will help lower India's reliance on the import of shipping containers manufactured using Corten steel and aid in achieving the vision of ‘AatmaNirbhar Bharat’.
Corten steel production also opens fresh opportunities for domestic cargo transportation by leveraging the vast expanse of inland waterways of India.
