Solar Capacity reaches 90 GW, as a goal to attain 500 GW RE capacity
New and Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi announced that India has achieved an installed solar capacity of 90 gigawatts as part of its goal to reach 500 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2030. Mr. Joshi made this statement during the inaugural ceremony of the seventh session of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) in New Delhi.
He also mentioned that the government has approved 50 solar parks, which will collectively have a renewable capacity of 37.5 gigawatts.
He also added that this year the global solar sector is set to reach approximately two terawatts of installed solar photovoltaic capacity. This year, the ISA is being held under the presidency of India and the co-presidency of France. At the assembly, the fulcrum of the discussions will be the means and modes that will be adopted to accelerate solar deployment across member countries, especially in regions with limited energy access.
