SHAKTI Policy: A Transparent Framework for Coal Allocation to Power Sector in India
Coal Allocation to Power Sector in India
SHAKTI Policy, launched in 2017 and updated in 2019 and 2023, ensures transparent coal allocation to coal-based power generators. It has facilitated coal linkages for capacities exceeding 63,670 MW and streamlined fuel supply agreements for 8,780 MW.
With six rounds of auctions under Paras B(ii) and B(iii) and over 115 MTPA coal linkage booked, the policy supports India's energy needs. Additionally, coal linkages for 4500 MW and earmarked capacities across nine states underscore its commitment to equitable energy distribution.
