Scindia Launches ₹80 Cr Agarwood Scheme in Tripura | GI Tag & Export Push
Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and Communications, Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, laid the foundation stone for the ₹80 crore Agarwood Value Chain Development Scheme in North Fulkabari, Tripura, on Saturday.
Speaking at the event, Scindia stated that the agarwood sector is set to become a strong example of ‘Local to Global’ under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He emphasized that the scheme aims to empower Tripura’s agarwood farmers by ensuring they receive the full value of their produce under the guidance of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.
Key Highlights of the Scheme:
-
Complete Value Chain Development: The initiative will strengthen the entire agarwood ecosystem—from cultivation and processing to branding and global marketing.
-
Central Processing Centres: Two CPCs will be established in Golaghat (Assam) and Tripura to enable end-to-end processing and eliminate middlemen.
-
Global Market Access: Measures include a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, a six-fold increase in export quotas, and a digital platform for permissions to connect farmers directly with international buyers.
-
Economic Impact: The scheme is expected to increase Tripura’s agarwood production capacity by up to 50%, with the potential to generate an annual turnover of ₹2,000 crore in the next 3–4 years.
-
Alignment with National Initiatives: The project reflects PM Modi’s vision of ‘One District One Product’ (ODOP) and ‘Vocal for Local’, transforming the agarwood sector into a symbol of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Minister Scindia also highlighted other development projects underway in Tripura, including the ₹280 crore Matabari Tourism Circuit, reinforcing the government’s focus on holistic regional growth.
