Reserve Bank of India strengthens presence in North-East with new sub-office in Nagaland

Dr. Michael Debabrata Patra, Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) inaugurated the Sub-office of the Reserve Bank in Kohima, Nagaland on 13 June 2023.

NEW DELHI- Dr. Michael Debabrata Patra, Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) inaugurated the Sub-office of the Reserve Bank in Kohima, Nagaland on 13 June 2023. With this, the Reserve Bank has further expanded its presence in the northeastern region (NER). 

Its presence in this region now includes Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, and Nagaland. RBI’s office in Guwahati will continue to cater to the needs of the state of Arunachal Pradesh till the Reserve Bank’s office in Itanagar is opened, which is expected shortly.

The Sub-office in Kohima begins functioning with the following departments: Financial Inclusion and Development Department (FIDD), Consumer Education and Protection Cell (CEPC), Market Intelligence Cell and Human Resource Management Department (HRMD).

The currency management for the state of Nagaland will continue to be conducted by the RBI’s office in Guwahati. The Sub-office is headed by Shri Paresh Chauhan, General Manager (Officer-in-Charge).
