Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Scheme added 16.07 lakh new workers, as per the latest provisional payroll data released by the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation in November 2024. The scheme also saw the registration of 20,212 new establishments during the same period, bringing a broader section of workers under social security coverage.
A year-on-year analysis of the data indicates a growth of 0.97% in net registrations compared to November 2023. During November 2023, the number of registered workers stood at 15.92 lakh, whereas November 2024 witnessed an addition of 0.15 lakh workers, raising the total to 16.07 lakh.

The demographic analysis of the newly registered workers shows that 7.57 lakh, constituting approximately 47.11% of the total registrations, fall within the age group of up to 25 years. Gender-based data reveals that 3.28 lakh female workers were enrolled in November 2024.
The records also show that 44 transgender workers joined the scheme during this period. The data highlights the continuous expansion of the ESI Scheme to provide social security coverage to workers across various sectors. ESIC emphasized that the payroll data remains provisional as data generation is an ongoing process.
