NTPC Bongaigaon’s EVOICE Initiative Distributes Educational Kits to Empower Local Youth

In a significant step towards empowering the youth of neighboring villages, NTPC Bongaigaon’s CSR wing, Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club, and Employee Volunteering Services (EVOICE) under its Disha Classes initiative recently distributed educational kits to 60 students. The kits, which included books, sports shoes, raincoats, and stationery items, were provided to support the students from nearby villages in their academic and physical training endeavors. Additionally, a whiteboard was presented to the Disha Classes center to enhance the teaching and learning experience.

The distribution of the items was led by Sh. Akhilesh Singh, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, in the presence of Sh. Debabrata Kar, GM (O&M); Sh. Asutosh Biswas, GM (Operations); Sh. GM Thangzom, Commandant CISF; Sh. M S Kandari, Assistant Commandant, CISF; Sh. Ashish Kumar, Deputy Commandant, CISF; Sh. Onkar Nath, AGM (HR); Smt. Sangeeta Singh, President, Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club (BSLC); Smt. Soumya Kar, Vice President, BSLC; and Smt. Jhumita Biswas, Senior Member, BSLC. They were also joined by EVOICE members, teachers, and representatives of HR-CSR.

During the event, Sh. Akhilesh Singh praised the dedication of the EVOICE member-teachers and commended the students for their determination in traveling long distances to attend the classes. Sh. Singh encouraged them to dream big, aspire to greater heights, and make their families and nation proud. The students also shared their experiences studying in the Disha Classes, expressing gratitude to NTPC for conducting these classes free of cost, which has significantly aided them in competing in various competitive exams.

The Disha Classes is an educational outreach initiative under NTPC Bongaigaon’s EVOICE program, designed to provide free coaching to youth from nearby villages. The initiative focuses on preparing students for competitive exams, particularly for paramilitary and military forces. To complement this academic support, NTPC employees have teamed up with the CISF unit at the station to offer physical training, ensuring comprehensive preparation for the students.

To date, more than 21 youth from nearby villages have secured employment in various paramilitary forces, including Assam Police, through the Disha Classes.

A highlight of the event was the presence of Shri Narkw Nazary, a former student of Disha Classes who is now employed at NTPC. He shared his journey, motivating the current students with his success story and reinforcing the program’s positive impact.

Since its inception in 2019, the EVOICE team’s Disha Classes have been dedicated to the holistic development of local youth, empowering them through various employment avenues. NTPC employees, along with CISF, have been devoting their time beyond office hours to provide guidance and education, with the aim of preparing the youth for competitive exams in armed, defense, state, and central paramilitary forces. NTPC Bongaigaon remains committed to supporting the community through such initiatives, ensuring that local youth are equipped with the necessary skills and resources to succeed in their future endeavors.
