It will use 3 lakh tons of dry bamboo per annum to produce 50000 tons of bio-ethanol. Construction of the bio-refinery is progressing in full wing and it is scheduled to be commissioned in August 2022.

NRL executing 2G biorefinery project with Assam Bio-Refinery

New Delhi: Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) is executing a 2G bio-refinery project through its joint venture company Assam Bio-Refinery Private Limited along with two foreign companies, Fortum and Chempolis from Finland. The plant is the largest 2G bio-refinery coming up in India.

It will use 3 lakh tons of dry bamboo per annum to produce 50000 tons of bio-ethanol. Construction of the bio-refinery is progressing in full wing and it is scheduled to be commissioned in August 2022. Reducing import of petroleum & contributing towards the rural economy, raw bamboo will be sourced directly from around 50,000 rural households of North East India.

The unique raw material sourcing model will also ensure direct payment to the bamboo farmers without going through middlemen.
