Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has partnered with IRCON International Limited to revolutionize the maintenance of electrification infrastructure, including Overhead Equipment (OHE) and Power Supply Installations (PSI). This groundbreaking collaboration was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on December 26.

The agreement was inked by Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager of NFR, and H.M. Gupta, Chief Managing Director of IRCON. It marks a milestone in the ongoing electrification drive in the Lumding and Tinsukia divisions.

“IRCON is a renowned organization with a legacy of tackling challenging infrastructure projects in India and abroad since 1976. This partnership ensures high-quality OHE and PSI systems maintenance in the rapidly electrifying Lumding and Tinsukia divisions,” said Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer, NFR, Maligaon.

The electrification of the Lumding and Tinsukia divisions is progressing swiftly, with most sections already operational. The remaining 425 route kilometers are slated for completion by June 2025. As electrified railways expand, the demand for skilled personnel to handle maintenance and attend to breakdowns has grown exponentially. Recognizing this need, NFR has engaged IRCON to ensure seamless operations for two years.

This collaboration is expected to bolster the efficiency of electric traction systems, directly impacting regional train operations. In addition to addressing maintenance needs, the MoU serves as a strategic platform for NFR to access cutting-edge technologies and exchange expertise with IRCON.

“This agreement sets the stage for a new era in managing electrification infrastructure, combining IRCON’s proven capabilities with NFR’s operational goals,” Sharma added.
