Nitin Gadkari clarifies no proposal to increase GST on diesel vehicles

New Delhi: The Union Minister of Road, Transport and Highways, Government of India has clarified that there is no proposal to increase the GST on diesel vehicles by 10%.

The clarification comes after some media reports suggested that the government was considering the move in order to discourage the use of diesel vehicles and promote the use of cleaner fuels.

He said, In line with our commitments to achieve Carbon Net Zero by 2070 and to reduce air pollution levels caused by hazardous fuels like diesel, as well as the rapid growth in automobile sales, it is imperative to actively embrace cleaner and greener alternative fuels.

These fuels should be import substitutes, cost-effective, indigenous, and pollution-free.

However, the government has committed to promoting cleaner fuels is also a positive development for the environment. Diesel vehicles are a major source of air pollution in India and the government's efforts to reduce their use will help to improve air quality in the country.
