New Extension Date Announced for Mandatory Vehicle Testing

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has recently issued a notification (GSR 663(E) dated 12th September 2023) regarding the extension of the mandatory testing date for Transport Vehicles through Automated Testing Stations. This notification is in accordance with rule 175 of the CMVR 1989.

According to the new notification, the date for mandatory testing has been extended to 1st October 2024. Additionally, it is now mandatory that fitness testing of vehicles should only be conducted through automated testing stations.

This requirement is applicable from the publication of the notification onwards. However, it is important to note that this rule applies only if there is an operational automated testing station registered under rule 175 in the jurisdiction of a registering authority.

Previously, the dates for mandatory testing were notified in GSR notification 272(E) dated 5th April 2022. According to the earlier notification, the mandatory testing for Heavy Goods Vehicles/Heavy Passenger Motor Vehicles was scheduled to start from 1st April 2023 onwards.

For Medium Goods Vehicles/Medium Passenger Motor Vehicles and Light Motor Vehicles (Transport), the mandatory testing was supposed to begin from 1st June 2024 onwards.
