New Delhi: NMDC's Donimalai Project welcomed the Minister of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Karnataka, Shri Umesh Vishwanath Katti.

Donimalai is located in Sandur taluk of Bellary district in Karnataka. Donimalai Complex has two iron ore mines, namely, Donimalai Iron Ore Mine and Kumaraswamy Iron Ore Mine.
The name Donimalai is derived from the shape of the hill in the local language, i.e. in Kannada 'Doni' means the boat and 'Malai' means hill. The hill range is in the shape of an inverted boat and hence the name "Donimalai".
The Kumaraswamy iron ore mine gets its name from the famous 11th-century temple of Lord "Karthikeya and Goddess Parvati", which is within a distance of 10 km from the mine.
It can be reached by road from Sandur, which is 10 kms away. The nearest railway station for passenger traffic is 'Torangallu' on the Hubli-Guntakal broad gauge section of South-Central Railway, 26 km from Donimalai.
District town Bellary is 58 kms on the northeast and Hospet another important business center is 40 kms away in the northwest direction, 325 kms away from Bangalore.
