IOCL celebrates 25 years of receiving first crude at Panipat Refinery

New Delhi: Indian Oil Corporation Limited, a Central public sector undertaking of India celebrates 25 years of the receipt of the first crude at IndianOil's Panipat Refinery.

On the occasion, Mr S M Vaidya, Chairman of IndiaOil addresses the special celebrations. 

"A special day for IndianOil and, personally, for me! Today, we celebrated 25 years of receiving the first crude at IndianOil's Panipat Refinery, which stands tall as the symbol of IndianOil’s refining prowess and India's pursuit of energy security. Our Company, that prides itself as the ‘Energy of India’, is a complex machinery in which Refining is a critical cog and Panipat Refinery epitomizes the three key mantras of Refining success; Profitability, Sustainability and Efficiency. It all began 25 years ago on this day, he said.

Receipt of Crude in Tank number 307 on 30th November 2022, through Salaya Mathura Pipeline, opened a new chapter of industrial growth, socioeconomic development for the region, and growth for Indian Oil. Today's celebrations resonate deeply with my IOCian soul. I share a special bond with Panipat Refinery, where I served and had an enriching tenure. The wheel turned a full circle for me as I was part of the team moving proverbial mountains to help Panipat Refinery take off.

The first crude receipt was thus a personal landmark, and I couldn't help getting immersed in nostalgia as I drove towards Panipat. The long drive from Delhi was thus well-spent in connecting to my teammates, who were right there with me when we turned the valve of Tank 307 to receive the Refinery's first crude supply. 

Being in the vicinity of Tank 307 after 25 years as the Chairman of this mighty Company marks a deeply satisfying and exciting journey.

Over the years, hundreds of dedicated energy soldiers and several energy stalwarts have contributed to the growth and development of this magnificent unit. Today, Panipat Refinery is undoubtedly one of the key growth drivers for Indian Oil and the nation, and it all started here, in this Tank farm area. 

It was thus an honour to turn the valve wheels of Tank 307 to salute the energy team that got Panipat Refinery going. And it was so special to connect personally with a few colleagues during today's celebrations, who were out here on the ground, two and half decades back heralding the milestone. That was a moment that planted seeds of great possibilities, the benefits of which the nation continues to reap today".
