Indian Oil celebrated International Women's Day; Chairman, SAIL graced the event
NEW DELHI- Indian Oil Corporation limited's Chairman, Mr S M Vaidya shared his thoughts on the celebration of International Women's Day. He said ,"A remarkable day today as I joined the extraordinary women IOCians to celebrate the essence of equity that International Women's Day seeks to uphold. Together, we renewed our resolve to nurture a gender-equal workplace where every woman, irrespective of her background, has a conducive environment and opportunities to flourish and excel. The gracious presence of Ms Soma Mondal, Chairman, SAIL, made the event even more special. As someone who has risen above every challenge to reach the pinnacle of the corporate ladder, her thoughts greatly inspired the women IOCians and her insights on work-life choices added immense value to the program.
IndianOil has been a trailblazer in empowering women and for us creating a level playing field at every stage is key to achieving true excellence. Our flagship coaching program for women leaders, Aarohi, has already groomed almost a hundred women across five batches, preparing them for senior leadership roles. On the social front, our Vidushi and Medha Chhatravritti Scholarships are two of many pioneering initiatives that are supporting India's young women in their quest for fulfilling careers.
But there is still a long way to go in ensuring real equity. We must keep talking about the issues that matter most, loud and clear, and take concrete steps that can create tangible differences. I am thrilled to announce that we took a significant stride today to promote gender-equity by introducing more empowering maternity leave policies. These build on the previous policies that were focused on easing out work travel for our women employees, especially mothers with young children. However, policies can do precious little unless they are backed up and implemented in true word and spirit. We also have to keep working on the cultural mindset around gender-based responsibilities. Men must also play an active role as caregivers and shouldering family responsibilities for an equitable and fair society.
Finally, to all my women comrades and associates from across the industry, we recognize the formidable barriers you have had to surmount to reach the pinnacles of success. We are committed to provide the opportunities, resources, and support you need to continue breaking barriers and charting your path ahead. Together, we shall demonstrate to the world the boundless possibilities that await us when we EmbraceEquitY".
