After Dr. Vivek Joshi, the Secretary of the Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT), was relieved from his position to become the Chief Secretary of Haryana, the New Delhi establishment assigned the additional role of Secretary of the DOPT to Tuhin Kanta Pandey. Pandey, an IAS officer from the 1987 batch of Odisha, is also the Finance Secretary (designate).
He has been working as Secretary of, the Department of Investment & Public Asset Management (DIPAM) while holding the additional charge of Secretary, Department of Public Enterprise (DPE) since 01.08.2024. He has four big responsibilities together, which makes him the most occupied Union Secretary at present.

The department has been operating under an ad hoc arrangement since the retirement of Radha S. Chauhan (Retd IAS: 1988: UP) on June 30, 2024.
Initially, Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla (Retd IAS: 1984: AM) held the additional charge until Dr. Vivek Joshi was appointed on August 17, 2024. However, after a brief tenure of nine weeks, Dr. Vivek Joshi was repatriated to his cadre, and Tuhin Kant Pandey took over as interim Secretary for DOPT on November 4, 2024.
