Dharmendra Pradhan along with Piyush Goyal & Mansukh Mandaviya took a high-level meeting
The oil, gas, and steel industry is also geared up to brave the situation arising out of Cyclone Yaas.
New Delhi: Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel along with Union Min. Shri Piyush Goyal & Shri Mansukh Mandaviya took a high-level meeting involving central and state govt agencies, officials of govt. of Odisha, West Bengal, and Jharkhand to review the preparedness in dealing with the situation arising out of Cyclone Yaas.
Senior officials from National Disaster Management Authority, India, National Disaster Response Force, India, India Meteorological Department, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Indian Coast Guard, Indian Navy, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India, economic stakeholders on the east coast and representatives from industry associations, like Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), Assocham were also present in the meeting.
Shri Pradhan mentioned in the meeting that the deep depression over the east-central Bay of Bengal is intensifying into a very severe cyclonic storm in the next 24-48 hours and is likely to cause squally winds and very heavy rainfall as it passes through coasts of Odisha & West Bengal and some areas in Jharkhand. National Disaster Response Force, India has pre-positioned 99 teams in 5 states/UTs, including 52 in Odisha to strengthen emergency preparedness. Teams have been deployed at Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, to facilitate relief & rescue operations from the impending CycloneYaas.
As a precautionary measure, all vital installations and major industrial units along the east coast, including those of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India, and Ministry of Steel, Government of India are operating on minimum manpower for the next 2-3 days. Preparations have also been made to secure all assets in the sea.
The oil, gas, and steel industry is also geared up to brave the situation arising out of Cyclone Yaas. The companies are fully prepared to ensure a continuous supply of petroleum products, other essential commodities, including medical oxygen for continued Covid19 management.
Shri Pradhan said, he assured all the stakeholders that there will be no dearth of supply of medical oxygen and that the steel industry will continue to supply life-saver medical oxygen to hospitals and health facilities to states even in the aftermath of Cyclone Yaas. "All our stakeholders along the east coast, including from the private and public sector, central and state govt. agencies have taken adequate measures, are fully prepared and are collaborating to minimise damages and making every effort to tackle Cyclone Yaas," he mentioned.
Earlier in the day, he also spoke to HM Shri Amit Shah ji on the severe cyclone situation developing over Odisha. He has assured all possible assistance in overcoming Cyclone Yaas and in providing relief, rescue, and rehabilitation to the people of Odisha.
