Kochi: Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) launched two state-of-the-art HS ECO FREIGHTER 7000 DWT short sea vessels. The vessels were built for HS Service GmbH & Co. KG, a prominent shipping company based in Germany. 

The ceremonial launch was graced by Smt. Rameetha K, Scientist 'G' and Associate Director of the Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL), which is part of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). Smt. Rameetha, who is also the wife of Shri Madhu S Nair, Chairman and Managing Director of Cochin Shipyard Limited, had the honor of launching the vessels.

The HS ECO FREIGHTER 7000 DWT vessels are designed to serve short sea shipping routes, offering an eco-friendly and efficient solution for transporting goods across Europe and beyond. Built with cutting-edge technology, the vessels boast features that emphasize energy efficiency and reduced carbon emissions, aligning with global efforts to create a greener maritime industry.

Speaking at the event, Shri Madhu S Nair expressed his pride in the CSL team for their dedication to delivering world-class vessels. He highlighted CSL's growing reputation for constructing environmentally sustainable ships, reinforcing the shipyard’s position as a leader in the global shipbuilding industry.

“These vessels are a testament to the skill and expertise of our workforce, and their launch marks another step forward in our commitment to delivering high-quality, eco-friendly ships to our international clients,” said Shri Nair.

Smt. Rameetha K echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the importance of technological advancements in the maritime sector and how collaborations between India and international companies like HS Service GmbH & Co. KG help push forward sustainable practices.

The two vessels are expected to play a significant role in strengthening short sea shipping operations in Europe, providing a reliable and environmentally conscious mode of transport for cargo. The launch event was attended by officials from CSL, HS Service GmbH & Co. KG, and other dignitaries from the maritime sector, who all hailed the project as a major success for Indo-German collaboration in the shipping industry.

The newly launched vessels will undergo final trials and inspections before being delivered to the German company in the coming months.
