Cochin Shipyard Limited signs contract with Defence Ministry

New Delhi: Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) on November 30, 2024, has signed a contract with the Ministry of Defence (MoD), Government of India, for Short Refit and Dry Docking of a Large Indian Naval Vessel, INS Vikramaditya. It is said that the estimated contract value is above Rs.1,000 crore and the estimated duration for the project is around 5 months, the company mentioned in its regulatory filing.
It is also mentioned that none of the promoter/ promoter group/group companies have any interest in the entity that awarded the order. Further, the said order also does not fall under the purview of related party transactions. Ministry of Defence in X Post said that "In a significant boost to India's Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives, the Ministry of Defence has signed a contract worth Rs 1207.5 crore with CSL for the Short Refit and Dry Docking of INS Vikramaditya.
This project is expected to enhance the combat capability of the aircraft carrier. The project will also involve nearly 50 MSMEs, generating #employment opportunities for over 3500 personnel.

INS Vikramaditya is an Indian Aircraft Carrier commissioned in the Indian Navy in November 2013. After completion of the Refit, INS Vikramaditya will join the active fleet of the Indian Navy with upgraded combat capability.
Originally built as Baku and commissioned in 1987, the carrier served with the Soviet Navy and later with the Russian Navy (as Admiral Gorshkov) before being decommissioned in 1996. After years of negotiations, the carrier was purchased by India on 20 January 2004. The transformed ship completed her sea trials in July 2013 and first STOBAR aviation trials in September 2013.
