Coal production reaches 92.87 million ton in December, a 10.75% growth

The coal production in fiscal year 2023 has achieved a cumulative production up to 684.31 million tonnes, registering 12.47% growth. The substantial increase in overall production has witnessed almost 10.75% growth as compared to the previous year.

The coal production has surpassed the figures of 83.86 MT as of 2022, by gaining the numerical figure of 92.87 MT in December 2023. The production of Coal India Limited has witnessed a substantial rise of 71.86 MT in December 2023 as compared to 66.37 MT in December 2022, with a positive growth of 8.27%. The cumulative coal production as per December 2023 has seen a quantum jump to 684.31 MT in FY23-24 as compared to the 608.34 MT during the same period of FY22-23, registering a growth of 12.47%.

The coal dispatch has also sufficed to reach 86.23 MT growth in the previous year's month-end, showcasing notable progress as compared to 79.58 MT in the previous fiscal year , an increase of 8.36%.

The Coal India Limited dispatch is standing at 66.10 MT as of December 2023, while the previous year's dispatch was standing at 62.66 MT in December 2022, representing a strong growth of 5.49%. 

According to official data, the country has witnessed the highest-ever coal production in FY22-23, accumulated to 893.19 MT [Provisional] in comparison to 778.21 MT in the previous fiscal year, registering a growth of about 14.77%.

The coal sector productivity has reached remarkable heights in terms of production, dispatch and stock levels. The growth is subjected to the result of contribution led by Coal PSUs, which has played an important role in driving this progress. The state of Jharkhand produces the most coal in India, with a total reserve of about 83.15 billion tonnes.
