State-run Coal India Ltd. announced its production and offtake figures for November on Monday, December 2. In November, overall production increased by just 1.7%, reaching 67.2 million tons (MT) compared to the same month last year. For the April-November period, Coal India's total production rose by 24% from the previous year, totaling 471 MT.

This figure represents 56% of the company's overall production target for the financial year 2025, which has been set at 838 MT. Coal India generally reports lower production in the first half of a financial year due to the monsoon months, while output picks up in the later half of the year.

Offtake for November remained unchanged at 63 million tonnes (MT). For the period from April to November, output increased by 1.5% compared to the same period last year, reaching 492.6 MT. Among Coal India's subsidiaries, Eastern Coalfields experienced double-digit growth, while BCCL, SECL, and NEC recorded a decline in output for November. Mahanadi Coalfields and Northern Coalfields both grew by 7%. None of Coal India's subsidiaries achieved double-digit growth in offtake for November.

Currently, Coal India shares are trading 0.5% higher at Rs 418.4. The stock has risen by 10% so far in 2024, although it has corrected over 20% from its recent high of Rs 543.
