CMPDI obtained Patent for its Innovative work
This system can be used in Mines, Thermal Power plants, Railway sidings, ports, construction sites wherein Coal and other minerals/ fugitive materials are stored under open sky.
New Delhi: Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Limited, a Mini Ratna (Category-I) company and fully owned subsidiary of Coal India Limited obtained a patent for its innovative work of Developing, “A System and Method for Controlling Generation and Movement of Fugitive Dust”.
The Patent was granted on 30th December 2022 by The Patent Office, Intellectual Property India, Government of India.
Shri Manoj Kumar, CMD, CMPDI and the concerned Director, Shri Shankar Nagachari, D (T/ES) appreciated the Environmental team of CMPDI and said obtaining the Patent implies the technological prowess of an organization, recognition of its efforts towards innovation. Patent gives CMPDI the right to stop others from copying, manufacturing, selling or importing our invention without our permission, which will commercially benefit CMPDI. Shri Kumar also motivated the achievers of such innovations to go for patenting in future to protect the interest of the company.
Fugitive dust is the particulate matter that is generated from various sources which are exposed to the air and not discharged into the atmosphere through a confined flow stream (stack emissions). This new innovative system helps in reducing the dust generation from open sources which in turn reduces air pollution and improve ambient air quality. This system also provides noise attenuation which helps in improvement of the aesthetics of the site. This system can be used in Mines, Thermal Power plants, Railway sidings, ports, construction sites wherein Coal and other minerals/ fugitive materials are stored under open sky.
Shri Prakash Chandra Jha, Chief Manager (Environment), CMPDI, explains that the present invention relates to the synchronized application of Wind Break (WB) and Vertical Greenery System (VGS) for reducing the generation and dispersion of fugitive dust. The Wind Break (WB) and Vertical Greenery System (VGS) are erected in the upwind and downwind direction with respect to the fugitive dust source(s), respectively. The Wind Break (WB) reduces the speed of the wind approaching towards the source and hence, it reduces the capacity of the ambient air to pick up dust while blowing over the source. The Vertical Greenery System (VGS) acts as a filter and reduces the quantity of the residual dust moving along with the wind towards the receptors in the down-wind direction. Therefore, there is a significant reduction in the concentration of the dust in the ambient air at various receptors located in the down-wind direction.
This helps in making the air, pollution free which in turn saves from the health damage to the inhabitants residing around and working in the mining areas.
