BEML unveils driverless metro train set for Line 2 & 7 in Mumbai

 BEML Limited has recently flagged off a new driverless MRS-1 Metro train set at its Bangalore plant. This is the 55th train set to be supplied for the Mumbai Metro’s Line 2 and Line 7, enhancing the city’s metro infrastructure and reinforcing BEML’s leadership in advanced rail solutions.

The Honourable Raksha Rajya Mantri, Shri Sanjay Seth, flagged off a new driverless MRS-1 Metro train set at BEML’s Bangalore plant, marking a significant milestone for BEML’s Rail business division.

This train set is the 55th to be supplied to the Mumbai Metro Rail Metropolitan Authority, and will be operational on Mumbai Metro’s Line 2 and Line 7, further enhancing urban mobility and showcasing BEML’s commitment to cutting-edge rail solutions.

BEML secured the order amidst stiff global competition for the design, manufacture, supply, testing, commissioning, and training of 96 trainsets (6-car train sets) of standard gauge Metro cars, valued at approximately Rs 4319 crores.

This event signifies a major step towards achieving sustainable urban transportation solutions and aligns with the Government of India’s vision of promoting indigenous manufacturing capabilities.

The company takes immense pride in supplying these state-of-the-art driverless trains to the prestigious Mumbai Metro Line 2 and Line 7. During the design stage, BEML ensured that the Metro train is optimised for maximum passenger comfort, safety, and energy efficiency, meeting stringent global standards. The 6-car train set has a capacity of carrying about 2,306 passengers, with seating for 298 passengers.
