Animesh Jain takes over as Chief General Manager for NTPC’s Coal Mining Division

Shri Animesh Jain, Head of the Project, Chatti Bariatu Coal Mining Project has assumed the position of Chief General Manager(I/c), NTPC Coal Mining Headquarters, Ranchi w.e.f 1st September 2023.

He will be heading the Coal Mining division of NTPC and shall look after all the Coal Mining Projects located in the States of Jharkhand, Odisha & Chhattisgarh and the Coal Mining HQ at Ranchi. Prior to his present posting, Shri Jain served as Head of Project at Chatti Bariatu Coal Mining.

In his illustrious career spanning over 32 years of experience, Shri Jain has an outstanding contribution in areas of Information and technology, CMD & Director (Technical) Secretariat, ERP, Corporate Planning, Coal Mining etc. He has also worked extensively in the area of business development both in India and abroad, merger and acquisition, risk management, strategic management, corporate affairs.

Shri Jain also served as Managing Director of Bangladesh India Friendship Power Company Ltd (BIFPCL) in 2020-21 and continues to be a board member till date. Prior to assuming the role of Managing Director at BIFPCL, he was responsible for establishing operations of NTPC Limited in Myanmar.

Apart from being Country Head for NTPC Limited in Myanmar, he contributed to the power sector initiatives for the BIMSTEC region as a member in inter-governmental committees.

He also served as CEO, NESCL, and has been a Director on the Board of Trincomalee Power Company Limited (a JV of Ceylon Electricity Board and NTPC Limited) and TELK for over two years.

In his responsibility as Executive Director of World Energy Council India, from 2021 to 2023 he has developed a holistic view of the power sector including the energy transition underway both in India and globally.

On the academic front, Shri Jain is a qualified Mechanical Engineer from National Institute of Technology(NIT) in India and holds a Master’s Degree in Information Systems and Engineering Management from George Washington University, USA. He has completed a mini-MBA from Management Center Europe, Belgium and has attended global leadership programs at University of Maryland, USA, Indian Institute of Management(IIM), Kolkata and Indian Institute of Management(IIM), Ahmedabad.

On a personal front, he enjoys travelling and has visited over 25 countries in four continents for professional purposes & training.
