Tranning for the Teachers of Primery Schools in Oral Health
Vasco: Goa Shipyard Limited in association with Goa Dental College organized 'Training the trainers' at GSL Officers’ Club hall, Vasco recently. This training for Primary School Teachers of Mormugao Taluka was aimed to empower them to act as ‘oral health guides’. The programme was inaugurated by RAdm. Shekhar Mital, Chairman and Managing Director of Goa Shipyard Limited in presence of Cmde B.B. Nagpal, Mr. Shrikrishna Kamat, Dr. Amita Kenkre Kamat, HOD, Dept of Public health dentistry, Goa Dental College and Hospital, Mr. David Noronha, ADEI Mormugao Taluka. On the occasion, a booklet on ‘A practical Oral health promotion Guide’ for Primary school teachers was launched by RAdm. Shekhar Mital, Chairman and Managing Director of Goa Shipyard Limited.
A total of 86 teachers participated in the workshop, who were equipped during the training program to assess the oral health needs of the students of the school and detect oral health diseases at the initial level thereby significantly increasing the chances of early detection and rapid referral.
The teachers were trained in basics of Dental anatomy, physiology, Pathology besides early recognition of Dental Diseases and handling of trauma which may arise during the process of Schooling. The training was also utilized to develop competency amongst primary teachers to demonstrate tooth brushing drills, flossing and to incorporate Oral health education as a part of subject in the school curriculum. Due emphasis was also laid on Nutritional requirement for School children and healthy Tiffin policy.
Participation certificates were distributed by Dr. Vedpal Tari and Dr. Vishwaraj of Goa Shipyard Limited.
