New Delhi: Chairman SAIL, Smt Soma Mondal visited Bhilai Steel Plant on 11th June 2021. Upon her arrival at Raipur airport, she was welcomed by Director I/c SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant, Shri Anirban Dasgupta, and other senior officials of SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant.

Chairman SAIL is accompanied by Shri HN Rai, Director (Technical, Projects & Raw Materials), SAIL, Shri Devdas, Executive Director (Operations) SAIL, and senior officials from Chairman’s Sectt., SAIL.


From Raipur airport, Chairman SAIL, Smt Mondal headed straight for Bhilai Steel Plant’s Dalli-Rajhara Iron Ore Complex. At Rajhara Guest House, she was welcomed by Executive Director (Materials Mgt) Shri Rakesh, ED (Projects) Shri A K Bhatta, CGM I/c Mines & Rowghat, Shri Tapan Sutradhar, CGM (Rowghat Mines), CGM (CET) Shri Anurag Upadhyay and other senior officials of the Plant and Mines Dept.

Accompanied by Director I/c SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant, Shri Anirban Dasgupta, and other senior officials of the Plant and Mines, Chairman SAIL, Smt Soma Mondal visited the sites of two important projects coming up at Dalli Mechanised Mines. Chairman SAIL first visited the site for the upcoming expansion project of Modification in Washing Circuit of Crushing Screening & Washing Plant (CSWP) with silica reduction facility where she took stock of the progress.  

With the depletion of iron ore reserves in all the mines of IOC, the quality of iron ore has deteriorated. Reduction in silica content in iron ore will enable gainful use of sub-grade iron ore by enhancing the quality of the ore and thereby help improve production and productivity in the steel plant.


Chairman SAIL, Smt Mondal also laid the foundation stone for the upcoming 1 MTPA Pellet Plant being set up on Build Own Operate (BOO) basis. The pellet plant will enable conversion of large volumes of slime lying at the bottom of the Hitkasa tailing pond at Dalli Rajhara into pellets that would be used for hot metal production in the Plant. She also visited the mining areas in Dalli Rajhara.  
Chairman SAIL Chairman SAIL, Smt Mondal later met Mines Union representatives and public representatives.

Chairman SAIL then viewed a presentation on Performance of Mines where she interacted at length with senior officers of Mines about present performance and future plans. Director I/c SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant, Shri Anirban Dasgupta and other senior officers of the Plant & Mines Dept were present.
