NTPC announces closure of its 460 MW Talcher Thermal Power Station

New Delhi: NTPC Limited on Tuesday said that it shall shut-down its Talcher Thermal Power Station on March 31. However, the plant is standstill from last week, due to non-availability of manpower to feed coal to the units, who were on strike and opposing the plant’s closure. The shut-down is because of the lifespan of TTPS, a unit of NTPC, expires on March 31 as per the guidelines of Central Electrical Regulatory Commission (CERC).

"We wish to inform that after running for 54 years, operations of Talcher Thermal Power Station, Odisha having a total installed capacity of 460 MW shall be discontinued w.e.f. 31st March, 2021," NTPC said in an official statement.

NTPC's Talcher Thermal Power Station, Odisha with a total installed capacity of 460 MW is operational from the last 45 years.

The authorities have completed preparations for the closure and even served notices to all the contractual employees numbering around 2,000.
