MCL organised a programme Awareness on Personal Hygiene and Distribution of Sanitary Napkins

Sambalpur: Every girl deserves control over her future, the power to make her own choices about her health, family and career. Due to inability to effectively manage menstruation school girls skips school or drop out of school entirely due to a lack of menstrual products and poor sanitation. This critical unavailability of sanitary products in India is one of the major barriers to education for girls of school going age particularly in rural areas.Considering the importance menstrual hygiene, MCL, under its Swachhta Hi Seva (SHS)-2019 campaign have organised a programme called “Awareness on Personal Hygiene & Distribution of Sanitary Napkins” in A.Katapali Govt. High School, Katapali, Sambalpur district on 27.09.2019.
 
Under the programme, sanitary pads have been distributed among 130 nos. school going girl students.
The Programme was organised jointly by both CSR Dept. of MCL & Jagruti Mahila Mandal, Burla.
 
The Chief Guest of the Programme was Smt. Manuja Shukla, President, JMM, Burla & Chief Speaker was Miss. Payal Pate, popularly known as Pad-Woman of western Odisha. All Vice Presidents Smt. Padmaja Singh, Smt. Padmini Vasudeven, Smt. Madhoo Mishra & General Secretary Smt. Ranjita Tripathy were also present in the programme. Girl Students of Class VIII, IX & X actively participated in the programme. Officials of CSR Dept.namely Sri Arabinda Sahoo, AM(CD)CSR and Sri Rohit Singh, AM(CD)/CSR were also present during the programme.
 
Not only pads were distributed but also students were made aware ware on hygienic management of periods. The awareness programme was carried out by Miss Payal Patel, popularly known as ‘padwoman’ of western Odisha. An advocate of menstrual hygiene, Payal has set up a sanitary pad manufacturing unit at Jharsuguda & makes pads available to the women at an affordable price. The low cost, affordable pads were bought from Ms. Payal.She has been working among rural women on menstrual hygiene. The procurement from Mis. Patel has helped in serving end to end supply chain since manufacturer & consumer, both of which at the bottom of the income pyramids.
 
Hence, the initiative of MCL will go a long way in creating conducive academic ambience, improving health of girl students. This will help in reducing school drop outs, improving health conditions & improving the learning level of students. In long run we will be able to create sane society.
