PowerGrid Appoints Burra Vamsi Rama Mohan as CMD Effective April 1, 2026
New Delhi, April 1, 2026: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has announced the appointment of Burra Vamsi Rama Mohan as its new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), effective April 1, 2026.
The decision was approved by the company’s Board of Directors during a meeting held earlier today, following a Ministry of Power order dated March 18, 2026.
Tenure and Appointment Details
Vamsi Rama Mohan has assumed charge with immediate effect and will serve as CMD until July 31, 2030, the date of his superannuation, or until further orders.
Prior to this elevation, he served as Director (Projects) at POWERGRID. The company confirmed that he is not related to any directors or key managerial personnel and is not debarred by any regulatory authority from holding the position.
Over Three Decades of Industry Experience
An engineering graduate with postgraduate qualifications in planning, project management, and management, Vamsi brings over 33 years of experience in power transmission and telecom sectors.
During his career at POWERGRID, he has held several leadership and strategic roles across:

He was also a founding member of the company’s Regulatory Cell and played a key role in POWERGRID’s entry into competitive bidding in the power transmission market.
Leadership in Telecom and Digital Initiatives
As CEO of Powergrid Teleservices Limited, he led the expansion of the telecom business and initiated the company’s first data centre project. In his tenure as Director (Projects), the company achieved record capitalisation and CAPEX milestones.
The appointment marks a leadership transition aimed at strengthening POWERGRID’s growth, digital transformation, and infrastructure expansion initiatives.
