Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) Board on Friday, January 31, 2025 recommended the name of Hari Shankar for the post of Managing Director, Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (Schedule A), one of the leading group companies of IndianOil’s.
Several senior executives were interviewed during the selection process:
- Mewa Lal Dahriya – Executive Director and Refinery Head, Indian Oil Corporation Limited.
- Subhajit Sarkar – Executive Director (Operations), Refineries, Indian Oil Corporation Limited.
- Kausik Basu – Executive Director and Refinery Head, Paradip Refinery, Indian Oil Corporation Limited.
- Mukesh Mohan – Executive Director (Health, Safety & Environment), Refineries HQ, New Delhi, Indian Oil Corporation Limited.
- H. Shankar – Director (Technical) with Additional Charge of Managing Director, Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited.
- Rohit Kumar Agrawala – Director (Finance), Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited.
- Dharmendra Kumar Sharma – Executive Director, Corporate Strategy & Planning and Business Development, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL).
Following a comprehensive evaluation, Hari Shankar emerged as the PESB’s recommended candidate to lead CPCL.

Who is the current MD of CPCL?
Right now H. Shankar who is serving as the Director (Technical) in the same company (CPCL) is currently holding the additional charge of the Managing Director in Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited. With effect from 16th July 2024, he is holding additional charge as Managing Director.

Mr. H. Shankar is a Mechanical Engineer and MBA in General Management with extensive knowledge in business management, strategic planning, and leadership. With over three decades of experience in all facets of refinery operations, he has played pivotal roles in project management, leading numerous large-scale projects from inception to completion.
His proficiency in contract management has optimized costs and ensured timely resource delivery, while his in-depth knowledge of health, safety, and environment (HSE) has fostered a culture of safety and environmental stewardship.
Mr. H. Shankar assumed charge as Director Technical, CPCL and has been a part of the CPCL Board since 1st Oct 2020, driving innovation and excellence in various domains, including new energies and digitalization.
