Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Sinha takes over as Director (Operations) of Hindustan Copper Ltd

New Delhi: Dr Sanjeev Kumar Sinha has taken over as Director (Operations) of Hindustan Copper Ltd. (HCL) with effect from 09.03.2025 in terms of Order No. Met.3-10/4/2023-Met.III dated 7.3.2025 issued by the Ministry of Mines, Government of India.

Dr Sinha is a Mining Engineer from Nagpur University, 1st Class Mines Manager under MMR 1961 and an MBA (HR) from IGNOU. He has completed his PhD in Mining Engineering from IIT(ISM) Dhanbad in 2018 on “Planning Strategies for Enhancing Mine Life vis-a-vis NPV for a Heterogeneous Iron Ore Deposit” which concerns the growing shortage of minerals in the present era and increasing life of Mine in Mining Project that prioritizes accurate estimation and meticulous planning.

With a wealth of more than 25 years of experience in NMDC Ltd., Dr Sinha was the Head of Mine Planning and Chief of the Internal Safety Organization prior to his joining HCL, and was closely involved in Planning, Production, Processing, Lease acquisition, additional area allotments, etc. Since his initial years as a Blasting Engineer, Dr Sinha has played a vital role from establishing the use of SME Explosive to installation of Mine Planning Software Surpac, MineSched and Whittle in NMDC Ltd as a Planning Engineer.

During his career at NMDC Ltd., he got ample opportunities and delivered accordingly in Drilling & Blasting, Production, and development of Mines at Bailadila Depoisit -14, Deposit 11C, Deposit - 10/11A, Donimalai Iron Ore mine, Desk Officer for Development of NCL, the appointment of MDO and handling Large Contracts. He has contributed in charting out of the Vision Plan of NMDC Ltd. for 100 MTPA production of Iron Ore by 2030 and has prepared Techno-Economic Feasibility Reports for projects having an estimated cost of around Rs 27,000 crore.

Dr S K Sinha has been associated with NMDC’s Diamond Mining Project at Panna, Asia’s only mechanized mine of diamonds and has developed "License to Operate Software" for tracking legal compliance. He has also aided digital initiatives like ERP and establishment of Fleet Management System in NMDC Ltd. 

Dr Sinha has presented several technical papers in National and International Seminars and a case study on reserve estimation complications in a heterogeneous iron ore body at World Mining Congress, Astana, Kazakhstan in 2018 and on “Pit Optimization for Improved NPV and Life of Mine in Heterogeneous Iron Ore Deposit” at World Mining Congress, Brisbane, in 2023. He has also attended PDAC 2023 in Canada.
