SECI and KSEB signs agreement for 125 MW/500 MWh BESS project in Kerala

KSEB partners with SECI for 125 MW battery energy storage system
The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) and Power PSU, Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI), have signed a battery energy storage sale agreement for a 125 MW/500 MWh grid-connected standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) project.
JSW Energy, which won the project at a competitive auction held by SECI at a tariff of Rs 441,000 per MW per month, will develop, operate, and maintain the project.

The BESS will be available for KSEB to charge and discharge on an on-demand basis, enabling the state utility to manage its grid requirements efficiently.
The project can also receive funding for the viability gap. With the goal of lowering power purchase costs by at least 10%, KSEB and SECI inked an agreement in September 2024 to purchase 500 MW of solar power at a price of Rs 3.49 per unit for 25 years beginning in September 2026.
