Under the agreement, 66 helicopters will be supplied to the Indian Air Force (IAF), while 90 helicopters will be delivered to the Indian Army. The deliveries are expected to begin within three years and will be completed over a period of five years. The LCH Prachand is a state-of-the-art multi-role combat helicopter, designed and developed by HAL, specifically for high-altitude operations. With over 65% indigenous content, this project will significantly contribute to India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem.
The contracts involve collaboration with over 250 Indian companies, a majority of which are Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). This initiative is expected to generate over 8,500 jobs, providing a major boost to the domestic aerospace and defence industry.
In addition to the helicopter deal, the Ministry of Defence has also signed a contract with Metrea Management for the wet lease of a KC-135 Flight Refuelling Aircraft (FRA). This aircraft will be used for training pilots from both the Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy, ensuring enhanced aerial refueling capabilities.

This marks the highest-ever annual defence procurement in Indian history, with a staggering 92% of contracts awarded to domestic industries, reinforcing India’s commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) in defence manufacturing.
This landmark development strengthens India's strategic capabilities and sets a new benchmark for indigenization in defence technology. The move is expected to enhance India's defence preparedness, especially in high-altitude warfare, while also fostering industrial growth and job creation.
