Bharat Petroleum signs MoU with NSI, Kanpur for sustainable bioethanol feedstock
Oil PSU, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and the National Sugar Institute (NSI), Kanpur, have signed an MoU to develop sweet sorghum as a sustainable bioethanol feedstock.
The agreement, signed by Shri Chandrasekhar N, Head (R&D), BPCL, and Smt. Seema Paroha, Director, NSI, was witnessed by Hon'ble Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Shri G Krishnakumar, C&MD, BPCL, and Shri Sukhmal Jain, Director Marketing, BPCL.
This collaboration will optimize sweet sorghum’s potential for ethanol production through research on seed quality, yield, agronomy, and juice extraction. It will also explore value-added applications for byproducts, supporting India’s Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) Programme and advancing the country’s clean energy goals.
