NLC India Limited is observing Vigilance Awareness Week (VAW) 2024 in line with the directives of the Central Vigilance Commission. This year, the inaugural function was celebrated at Lignite Hall, Neyveli, with activities scheduled from October 28 to November 3 under the theme, “Culture of Integrity for Nation’s Prosperity.”

The inaugural function was presided over by Thiru Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of NLCIL, with the presence of Thiru Samir Swarup, Director (HR); Dr. Prasanna Kumar Acharya, Director (Finance); and Thiru Appakannu Govindarajan, IPoS, Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO).

Thiru A. Eranian, Chief General Manager/Vigilance, extended a warm welcome to the gathering. To mark the inauguration, a traditional Kuthuvilakku lamp was lit by the CMD, Functional Directors, CVO, and ED/Contracts. The Integrity Pledge was administered in Tamil, Hindi, and English.

As part of the initiative, an Integrity Rath symbolizing anti-corruption was flagged off by the CMD, adding a dynamic element to the awareness program. Additionally, an Integrity Club was launched, welcoming school students and teachers as members to foster an ethical future generation.

About 13 schools in Neyveli received laminated Integrity Club portraits as inaugural tokens. Delivering the presidential address, Thiru Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD, NLCIL, commemorated Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, whose birth anniversary is celebrated as Vigilance Awareness Week, honoring his commitment to integrity.

Reflecting on the event theme, CMD/NLCIL emphasized the importance of integrity and shared NLCIL’s vision to expand a multifold production capacity with a planned investment of Rs. 1,25,000 crore. He also highlighted NLCIL commitment to core values and commended the Stamp Design by Rangoli competition, an initiative that nurtures students general focus towards integrity. The CMD reiterated the Prime Minister’s message that the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel will be commemorated over the next two years.

Thiru. Appakannu Govindarajan CVO/NLCIL mentioned that Vigilance Awareness Week is a continuous effort, extending beyond NLCIL employees by involving all the stakeholders such as the public, students, and teachers. He outlined various activities performed in the campaign period that includes workshops, Stamp design by Rangoli, and various competitions, and also added upcoming events includes interactions with vendors and contractors and walkathon.

CVO also unveiled NLCIL Vigilance’s vision statement, focusing on integrity, transparency, fairness, accountability and emphasised preventive Vigilance. Dr. Prasanna Kumar Acharya, Director (Finance), remarked on the vital role of Vigilance in curbing corruption, enhancing transparency, and empowering citizens. He stressed vigilance as a foundation for the organization’s growth trajectory. Director (HR) Samir Swarup referenced former CVC N. Vittal, stating, “Sunshine is the greatest disinfectant.”

He highlighted that greater transparency fortifies systems to combat corruption. He suggested Vigilance officials to adopt proactive vigilance to guide all to the path of integrity. To commemorate the occasion, Director (Finance) Acharya released a customized desktop mobile stand featuring depiction of Manunithi Cholan theme. The event concluded with Vote of Thanks by Thiru. A. Anbazhagan, General Manager/Vigilance, followed by vibrant cultural performances by the students of Neyveli schools.
