Tata Power looks forward to set up pumped hydro storage projects of 2800MW
Tata Power Company Limited is looking forward to setting up pumped hydro storage projects of 2800 MW capacity by FY29 with an investment of Rs 15,000 crore.

The parent company has illustrated to tie-up with its subsidiary Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd, which will add other energy sources and would provide all over power utilization and the commercial and industrial sectors. This will, on the other hand, provide round-the-clock power to utilities and group captive consumers of commercial and industrial segments and help meet their renewable energy obligations.
The combination will consist of solar, wind, and pumped hydro energy, while the pumped hydro storage has come into focus in recent years as the intermittent nature of renewable energy projects has been a challenge for grid stability.

A renewable project has surplus power and it uses the pump water to the higher reservoir. On average, there are 97 GW of pumped hydro storage potential in India, with 40 GW in the western part of the country. According to the report published by Deloitte and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, both pumped hydro storage and battery energy storage solutions will increase the dominancy in India’s electricity system. The project of pumped storage power was announced in the interim budget for 2023-24.
