SAIL, RSP adopts Multipronged approach under Project ‘Nischay’
New Delhi: As part of the efforts to ensure total safety inside the plant and make accident free steel, SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has adopted a multipronged approach under safety culture improvement initiative Project ‘Nischay’. Reputed Safety Management Consultant Messers Ernst & Young has been engaged to assess and help RSP in instilling a culture of holistic safety in the organization as part of the project.
In the initial phase, safety consciousness amongst the workforce was mapped through a detailed survey process to identify gaps at the work place and subsequently draw a roadmap to bridge those gaps and make the workplace better and safer, with the ultimate objective of zero harm.
Focused safety campaigns have also been rolled out which include conducting Cascading sessions in different departments, deep structured one on one interactions with department heads and focused group discussions involving executives and workmen. So far 115 cascading sessions have been organised covering 1500 workmen.
A team of expert safety consultants of E & Y is visiting and spending quality time at Shop Floors to interact with both regular and outsourced employees to assess and sensitize people on the different facets of behavior and risk based safety. Emphasis is being given on the critical role of each individual in creating and maintaining a safe work environment.
The employees are further sensitized to imbibe safety as an essential value rather than only a priority. While underscoring the various key components like humanity, empathy and caring for its people that sets the environment for a healthy and safe work place, the employees are encouraged to have the right attitude towards safe production.
Emphasis is being given to create an environment of continuous improvement where each employee instinctively feels responsible for their own safety and their colleagues safety. Besides, Safety mindset and behaviour Enhancement , Workshops are also being held where detailed deliberations are being conducted to develop an integrated organization structure for safety governance with line management accountability for producing accident-free steel.
A team of Consultants of Messers E&Y are facilitating the whole project with their expert team in association with the Department NISCHAY Champions and Safety Engineering Department of RSP.
