NEW DELHI: Hon’ble MP, Lok Sabha, Sh. Ramesh Chander Kaushik along with General Manager Northern Railway Sh. Ashutosh Gangal inspected the recently completed Rail Coach Naveenikaran Karkhana, Sonipat project undertaken by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited on 4.12.2021. 

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited has been entrusted with the development of this Rail Coach factory. The Rail Coach Naveenikaran Karkhana at Sonipat is the first of its kind facility being set up to cater to the mid-life rehabilitation and refurbishment of coaches. The Rolling Stock Complex is designed for sustainable development. The foundation stone of the project was laid by Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister on 9th October 2018.   

The workshop is equipped with state-of-the-art machinery and plants which include coach traverses, coach shot blasting plant, coach paint booth with drying oven, bogie frame shot blasting plant, bogie paint booth and drying oven, spring shot blasting plant, Magna-flux testing machine, spring load testing machine and paint booth with drying oven, coach washing plant, portal wheel lathe, vertical turret lathe, axle turning lathe, wheel press, remote-controlled EOT cranes, synchronized coach lifting jacks, air compressors, welding machines, various fixtures, tools, and plants, etc. An automatic line with an industry 4.0 compliant plant is planned for disassembly and assembly of bogies.

Material storage systems include Automatic Storage cum Racking System (ASRS), heavy-duty storage racks, flat pallets, and caged bins. Material handling systems include road-mobile cranes, hydraulic stackers, forklifts, platform trucks, hand pallet trucks, etc.

The workshop is provided with various utilities like compressed air and industrial gas pipeline, water supply arrangement, fire hydrants, drainage, sewerage,  telecommunication network, etc. Electrical works include an 11 kV electric substation with500 kVA DG power backup.

The project includes several green initiatives as part of Sustainable Development viz. Energy generation by 1500 kWp shed roof-mounted solar power plant, 75 KLD sewage treatment and wastewater recycling plant, natural daylight through UV protected polycarbonate sheeting,  natural ventilation through side louvers and turbo vents, LED lighting for sheds, buildings, and streetlights besides tree plantation, etc. 
The fast-track turnkey execution of this important project will boost the development of industrial activities in the region and will provide new opportunities for ancillary industries and vendors.
